Software updates

PHP 5.3.2

PHP is now at 5.3.2. 5.3 deprecates a number of legacy functions, so please make sure all installed apps are up to date.

Mail upgrade

For users of hosted mail, I've made a change to how the mail server stores messages locally. I've migrated from the old mbox file format to the new Maildir format.

This upgrade should be transparent for all users, as it occurs automatically the first time you log in. For many users this has already occurred. If your account has not yet been upgraded, you may notice a delay while the upgrade occurs, especially if you have a large number of messages on the server. This delay will only happen one time.

Database and PHP updates

MySQL is now at 5.1.43. eAccelerator has been reinstalled, and I also made a few more changes to the PHP configuration to further improve performance.

Also, roundcube has been updated to a recent trunk, to add some features I wanted that are not in the latest official release.

FastCGI and PHP privilege separation

I've finally gotten some new features online that I've been meaning to do for some time...

All PHP scripts are now run with privilege separation, which will give you improved security, should a site become compromised.

Additionally, I've implemented FastCGI, which should give a reasonable performance boost, especially to media-heavy and client-server interactive sites, like those that use AJAX for requests.

FreeBSD 8.0

The main server is now running FreeBSD 8.0.

Also, dovecot is now at 1.2.10.

Apache and Dovecot upgrades

Apache is now 2.2.14 and Dovecot is now 1.2.8.

I'll be updating the base system to FreeBSD 8.0 soon.

Updating

I just updated MySQL to 5.1.39.

Also, SquirrelMail is running 1.4.20-RC2. This is to fix a major bug in 1.4.19, but I've been alerted that searching is currently broken. I'll let you know when it's fixed.

Update time!

More updates done.

Apache is now 2.2.13, Dovecot is 1.2.4, and milter-greylist is 4.2.3.

MySQL update

MySQL is now at the next major version, 5.1.35.
